The United Way of Merced County said its Emergency Food and Shelter Programs expect to distribute about $275,000 in federal funds to nonprofits during 2011 to provide emergency food and shelter for those in need.
Fred Buckingham, chair of the program’s local board, said agencies with IRS nonprofit status that provide either emergency food or shelter in the county are eligible to apply. They can call (209) 383-4242 or see www.unitedwaymerced.org for information and an application.
Applications must be submitted by Oct. 7. An orientation workship will be held at 3 p.m. at the United Way office, 658 W. Main St., on Wednesday, Sept. 7.
