Overnight thunderstorms soaked the Merced area Monday. Residents reported thunder and lightning in the early-morning hours. The National Weather Service in Hanford reported .16 inches of rain at Dry Creek near Snelling.
Today's forecast calls for a 40 percent chance of rain, with a high temperature of 77 degrees and a low around 54.
A winter weather advisory is in effect for much of the Sierra Nevada, including Mariposa County and Yosemite National Park. NWS meteorologist predict between 2 to 4 inches of snow for areas higher than 8,500 feet in elevation, including Tioga Pass.
