The city and county of Merced will dedicate the newest segment of Campus Parkway and celebrate the completion of Campus Parkway Phase 1 at 10 a.m. Friday.
The section of Campus Parkway between Gerard Avenue and Childs Avenue was recently completed and the light signals at a cost of $7.5 million.
Ultimately, Campus Parkway will extend from the Mission Interchange to Yosemite Avenue. The first phase is now completed, extending from the Mission Interchange at Highway 99 to Childs Avenue.
The next section scheduled for construction is from Childs Avenue to Yosemite Park Way/Highway 140, but it isn’t fully funded. The city said it’s working with the county to secure funding for the rest of the project.
Once completed, Campus Parkway will become a major arterial in the city, linking the UC Merced campus with Highway 99. Residents in northern and eastern Merced also will find it is a fast, convenient way to link up with the freeway, according to a news release from the city.
The event will be held at the Campus Parkway and Childs Avenue intersection. There will be parking on the southbound lanes of the Parkway. The road will be opened for public use after the ceremony. To get to the ceremony, take Childs Avenue, and it’s about a half-mile past Coffee Street
