Merced American Legion, VFW seek volunteers for honor guard duty

The Merced American Legion and VFW said they welcome more volunteers for their honor guard for Veterans Day, Nov. 11.

Nineteen men are now on the roster. That isn’t enough, organizers said. It takes 10 to perform a funeral and more for larger events and patriotic presentations. In October the honor guard performed at three funerals and four flag presentations, drawing on just 19 men.

The groups said they need 40 men on the roster, and 60 would be better. They asked returning veterans to “rejoin their comrades and provide relief.”
