The city of Merced said athe first floor gallery of the Merced Civic Center is filled with maps — maps of crime incidents, maps of park locations and aerial shots showing how the city has changed over the decades.
All of them are part of a display to celebrate Geography Awareness Week, and to show people that maps have many more uses than just showing how to get from here to there, the city said in a news release.
The gallery features maps from various city and Merced County departments and other agencies in Merced County.
The gallery is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. during regular business days. It also is open when the City Council and other agencies have night meetings. The Merced Civic Center is located at 678 W. 18th St. Merced.
The gallery will be open through Dec. 6.
The city also said it will host a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Day event Tuesday, Nov. 16 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Sam Pipes Room. Various GIS users and vendors will give presentations. Of local interest is a presentation on using pesticide reports for ag research and how the Merced Police Department uses GIS.
