Merced College to present plays, plus bus trips to San Francisco/Pebble Beach

Merced College said its Drama Department will present "Not in Front of the Children: An Evening of Student-Directed Ten-Minutes Plays" during the month of December.

Recommend for mature audiences, the plays include "Kingdom of the Spider," directed by Helen Brinich-Barnes; "Fugue," directed by Kimberly Carpenter; "Lures," directed by Jason Best; "The Unwanted," directed by Jordan Bremer; and "The Wedding Story," directed by Sarah Winter.

The performances are scheduled for Dec. 2-4 at 7:30 p.m. and Dec. 5 at 2 p.m. in the Merced College Theater. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased in the College Bookstore and at the Theater Box Office. For more information, call the Arts Division at (209)386-6644.

The college also said its Community Services office will sponsor several bus trips, including a holiday shopping trip to San Francisco's Union Square."Christmas Shopping at Union Square in San Francisco" is a traditional holiday trip to Union Square. Participants can see the festive displays, decorations, and shopping, the college said in a news release.

Time will be provided to explore areas of San Francisco. A hospitality suite will be provided at the Westin St. Francis. Few seats remain for the excursion. The bus leaves on Friday, Dec. 3, at 7 a.m. and will return to Merced at 10 p.m. The cost is $65 and includes transportation and refreshments.

"Pebble Beach" is a 72-hole PGA Tour championship golf tournament played on Poppy Hills, Spyglass Hill and Pebble Beach Golf Links. Professionals compete for a $4 million purse and are paired with amateurs in two-man teams. Shuttles will transport participants to various courses for a full day at the tournament. The bus leaves on Thursday, Feb. 10, 2011, at 6 a.m. and will return at 9 p.m. Early Bird Registration by Dec. 17 is $75. After Dec. 17 the cost is $90, which includes transportation, admission, and refreshments.
