County education office to celebrate local partnerships, send off retiring Lee Andersen

The Merced County Office of Education said it will celebrate its partnerships with other organizations in the community and the retirement of County Superintendent Lee Andersen at the Merced County Fairgrounds on Dec. 9.

The celebration starts at 5:30 p.m. with a no-host social hour, followed by dinner from Fernando’s Restaurant and a program with guest speakers after dinner. Merced Police Chief Norm Andrade will MC the event.

Partnerships with public and private community agencies, the county of Merced, cities and business will be highlighted. Related MCOE services recently added or expanded include preschool autism, Head Start, childcare and after-school programs, as well as Teacher of the Year recognition.

Andersen's retirement date is Jan. 2. Steve Gomes, superintendent of the Planada Elementary School District, is superintendent-elect and will start his four-year term Jan. 3.

The event costs $35 and no tickets will be sold at the door. To buy tickets, or for more information, contact Yolanda Campos at ycampos@mcoe.org or call (209) 381-6603.
