Police seeking man who approached student, exposed himself

Merced police are searching for a man who exposed himself to a Tenaya Middle School student on Wednesday.

The incident was reported around 8:45 a.m. in the area of Childs Avenue and Mimi Lane. The 14-year-old girl was walking to school when the man drove up alongside of her, asking for directions to B Street, according to Lt. Bimley West.

The driver wasn't speaking very loud, and the girl could barely hear him. When the girl walked closer to the car in order to hear him, she saw that his pants were open, and he was touching his privates, West said.

The man apologized to the girl and drove away. The suspect is described as a Latino male adult in his 30s with short hair. He spoke in both English and Spanish, and drove a light blue four-door car, possibly an Acura or a Honda.

Police are asking anyone with information to call Sgt. Scott Skinner at (209) 385-4702 or the department's automated tip-line at (209) 385-4725. Anonymous tips can be text messaged to the department by dialing "TIP411" (847411) and including the word "ComVIP" as the keyword.
