McKinley Grover Road opens today, gives access to Wilson Reservoir for fishing

For Immediate ReleaseApril 28, 2011

CLOVIS – McKinley Grove Road opens today, allowing access to Wishon Reservoir and the beginning of boating and fishing season.

McKinley Grove Road, with access beginning just east of Dinkey Creek in the High Sierra Ranger District, closes annually in December and re-opens in April. Specific dates are based on weather and road conditions. Access to road side parking, campgrounds, and trails may be limited due to snow.

Forest Supervisor Scott Armentrout welcomed forest visitors to enjoy recreational activities now available via McKinley Grove Road, but cautions to always remember safety.

“Forest roads and weather conditions can change within minutes of an approaching weather front and unprepared visitors can be in danger if unprepared,” said Armentrout in a news release. “It’s worth the time and energy to pack appropriate clothing, food, water and blankets and be prepared for an unexpected emergency. Remember to tell someone where you’re going and your expected return.”

The road to Courtright Reservoir will remain closed until it is clear of snow and other hazards; Courtright Road is owned and operated by Pacific Gas & Electric.
