The 22nd annual kids’ fishing and fun day will be held Saturday, May 21 at the San Luis Reservoir State Recreation Area at San Luis Creek on the O’Neill Forebay near Los Banos.
The event is hosted by the Department of Water Resources and California state parks staff and volunteers. Children ages 3 to 15 may sign in starting at 10 a.m. Free bait will be provided. Each participant will receive free strawberries and whipped cream and will be able to do free crafts. There will be a free fishing simulator to try. People can bring a picnic lunch, or buy hot dogs from a vendor.
There will be free pontoon boat rides if the weather is good. The only cost for the day is the $10 state park day use fee per car.
This event marks the occasion of the annual May water awareness month. To reach the San Luis Creek area, take the San Luis Creek turn-of from Highway 152 at the O’Neill Forebay and follow the signs. For more information, call (209) 827-5353.
