Merced College said its Chorale and Chamber Singers will conduct their spring concert performance in the college's Theater May 13-14 at 8 p.m.
With a heavy dose of the "Three B's," Bach, Beatles and Brahms, the concert will include something for everyone, including Bach's "Ave Maria," the Beatles' "The Long and Winding Road" and more.
"The concert doesn't center on the typical Bach, Beethoven, and Brahms, but on Bach, Beatles and Brahms," said Chorale director Curtis Nelson. "The Chorale and Chamber Singers will present choral works by Johann Sebastian Bach, arrangements of songs written and made famous by the Beatles, and several movements from Brahms' choral masterwork 'A German Requiem.'"
While the Bach and Beatles pieces are the first part of the concert, the final portion will center on three movements from Brahms' “German Requiem.”
In addition to the music, the concert will include multimedia presentations on the composers' lives, and their uniqueness. Interesting quotes, facts, trivia, will augment the choral concert. The two ensembles will be accompanied by pianist Patrice Stribling Nelson. The chorale, which has about 60 singers, and the 20-member Chamber Singers will be joined by a 14-piece instrumental ensemble. The Brahms' Requiem movements will be accompanied by the string instruments as well as a four-hand piano accompaniment with Darrel Lingenfelter joining Stribling Nelson at the piano.
Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at the door. They may be purchased at Gottschalk's Music, 355 W. Main Street in Merced, Passadori's, 3rd and Broadway in Atwater, Peraino's Jewelry and Gift Emporium in the Bear Creek Galleria, and at the college bookstore.
Doors open at 7:30 for the 8 p.m. performances. For more information, call (209) 384-6224.
