Two people were injured in a pair of separate shootings Thursday evening and early Friday morning in South Merced.
Police say both victims are expected to survive, and no suspects have been arrested in either case.
The first shooting was reported around 9:46 p.m. at an apartment complex in the 500 block of M Street. The victim, a 33-year-old woman, was shot twice in her lower body. She reported hearing shots while she was walking to her apartment and felt pain in her leg, according to Lt. Tom Trindad.
The victim said she had no idea why someone would shoot her.
Witnesses saw a 1990 Grey Ford Mustang circle the area before the shooting, and leave after the shots were fired. The victim was taken to a local hospital and treated.
The other shooting was reported at 2:38 a.m. in the 900 block of D Street. A 33-year-old man was shot in the hand, telling police it happened while he was hanging out at an apartment complex, Trindad said.
The victim told police the shots came from a vehicle driving on Childs Avenue. He could only describe the vehicle as possibly being a Honda. The motive for the shooting is unknown, and Trindad related the victim isn’t cooperating with police.
Police are investigating whether the shootings are related.
