Merced man arrested after police chase that ends in crash

A Merced man was arrested after allegedly leading police on a short chase Thursday night, Merced police said.

Robert Ramon, 40, was driving through a Central Merced neighborhood when he passed police officer Gerald Bohanan, who checked his license plate number and discovered his vehicle had been reported as stolen. Bohanan tried to pull over Ramon, who drove away and led the officer on a chase through Merced, police said. The pursuit ended when Ramon crashed into a fence in the 1700 block of Dale Avenue. Ramon and his passenger ran away, but Merced County sheriff's deputies helped find him, police said. The passenger wasn't found.

Ramon was booked into Merced County Jail on suspicion of auto theft, reckless felony evading and resisting arrest.
