Merced County’s Superior Court said it will celebrate Juror Appreciation Week, along with the entire Judicial Branch of California, May 9-13.
Juror Appreciation Week is a way of acknowledging the service citizens provide to the nation and the state through the fulfillment of jury duty, the court said in a news release. The right to trial by a jury of one's peers lies at the heart of the justice system and is a cornerstone of the nation's democratic ideals.
To help kick off Juror Appreciation week, the Jury Assembly Room located inside the Merced Courthouse is displaying artwork painted by local area artists for jurors to enjoy. The art exhibits will be rotated every quarter and replaced with new artwork.
The artists for the first quarter are Judith Burton, Deanna Lynn Schmitz and Roger Wyan. If you are a local artist and are interested in displaying your artwork in the Jury Assembly Room, please contact the Superior Court at (209) 725-4252.
