Merced County firefighters responded Friday night to a structure fire in the 20000 block of Elko Avenue in Stevinson that caused about $50,000 in damage but no injuries.
Firefighters encountered flames coming from the kitchen window. The flames were extinguished quickly, and the fire was confined to the kitchen.
A family of four, including two adults and two children, lived at the address, but no one was home.
Two dogs were outside the home; they were unharmed. The family is being helped by the American Red Cross.
Fourteen firefighters, three fire engines, one water tender and a squad responded to the blaze. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Cooperating agencies were the Merced County Fire Department, Cal-Fire and PG&E.
