Fire in Delhi destroys vacant 1920s' house; $25,000 in damage

A structure fire in Delhi Tuesday night destroyed a vacant home, causing an estimated $25,000 in damage, according to the Merced County Fire Department.

There were no injuries reported.

Firefighters from Merced County Fire Department responded to a structure fire in the 14000 block of 2nd Avenue South in Delhi. The first fire officer on the scene reported a single-story, single-family dwelling and a pump house on fire.

Firefighters were able to control the fire and prevent it from spreading to a nearby barn and an unoccupied residence. The vacant home, about 1000 square feet, was estimated by fire department officials to have been built in the 1920s. It was completely destroyed by the fire.

A total of 14 firefighters, three Merced County fire engines, two Merced County water tenders and two chief officers responded to the call.

The cooperating agencies were the Merced County Fire Department, Cal-Fire and Turlock Irrigation District.
