The city of Merced said its salute to all of grads takes place Friday night, May 13, with the Cap & Town Festival in downtown Merced. The Ultimate Block Party will run from 5 to 10:30 p.m. and celebrate the region’s academic achievements.
With more than 45 vendors signed up, Main Street will be filled with the sounds of reggae and rock ‘n’ roll, the smells of kettle corn and Brazilian barbecue and the sights of foklorico and Polynesian dancers, and more, the city said in a news release.
Some of the highlights include pony rides, on-the-spot art, arts and crafts vendors, a beer garden, three different stages with blues and indie rock, eight bounce houses and face-painting.
Food will range from Mexican and Chinese cuisine to hot dogs, tri-tip sandwiches, roasted corn and old-fashioned ice cream.
The city said it has worked with Downtown Life Magazine to bring the live entertainment to the festival.
Last year Cap & Town drew nearly 10,000 people to the Downtown for five hours.
