A motorcyclist was killed Friday after he struck a school bus around 7:55 a.m. near Grogan Avenue and McCready Drive , Merced police reported.
No children were on board the bus at the time of the accident, and no one else was hurt, according to Sgt. Jay Struble. The victim has been identified by the Merced County Coroner's Office as 30-year-old Samuel Martinez.
Police say Martinez was traveling westbound on Grogan Avenue. Meanwhile, bus driver Sophia Madrid, 42, of Merced, was pulling out of a parking lot to begin her daily route.
Madrid didn't see Martinez's motorcycle in time, and pulled out in front of him, Struble said. Martinez struck the driver's side of the bus and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Struble said the case remains under investigation. Madrid wasn't arrested and it's unknown whether she'll face charges.
