Web forum users fighting Yosemite ticket scalping

Like a game of Whack-a-Mole, a small group of Yosemite enthusiasts are flagging posts on Craigslist by ticket scalpers trying to sell passes to the National Park. The Sun-Star ran a story in April saying that ticket scalping is a growing problem for National Parks, notably at Yosemite, the third-most visited park in the country.

According to the story, the 900 Yosemite campsites can be reserved for $20 a night through the website ReserveAmerica, but park officials say they've seen Craigslist posts listing prices as high as $100 to $150 a night for the same reservations. Permits to climb Half Dome are also popping up for sale.

Rather than waiting for an official solution, users of the web forum YosemiteNews.info are picking out the posts on Craigslist sites around the country and posting them to the site so they'll be flagged as abusive by other users and taken down. On Thursday alone there were more than two dozen posts on the forum identifying possible scalpers.
