Burglar flees Meadows Avenue apartment after resident wrestles him to ground

A Merced man woke up at 3:18 a.m. Sunday to find a burglar rifling through the DVDs inside his Meadows Avenue apartment, Merced police reported.

According to Lt. Matt Williams, the resident spotted the burglar and was able to wrestle him to the ground. While the occupant's spouse was calling the police, the burglar escaped and was last seen on foot, heading toward Loughborough Drive.

One of the windows on the victim's house was off its track, and the burglar lifted the window and got into the house. Only a laptop computer was reported stolen, Williams said.

The suspect was described as a Latino man, about 20 years old, 5 feet

8 inches tall, wearing a dark blue jacket and a white hat.
