36-year-old Merced man injured in drive by shooting

A 36-year-old Merced man is recovering after being wounded in a drive-by shooting around 6:30 p.m. Monday, Merced police reported.

Carlos Escamilla was walking in the 600 block of West Ninth Street when a red car pulled up and someone inside shot him, according to police.

Police responded to a call of shots fired and spotted Escamilla walking away from the scene. He'd been shot in the torso and was taken by an ambulance to Mercy Medical Center Merced. He was later released, police said.

Witnesses reported seeing Escamilla fall to the ground as the red car sped away. No additional details about the shooters were available.
