Friday and Saturday Merced County Fair schedule to feature rodeo and outdoor concert

The CCPRA Rodeo will be rockin' and rollin' in the crandstand with pre-rodeo festivities, including crowning the 2011 Miss Merced County Fair Rodeo Queen at 6 p.m. The Daredevil Sweethearts -- a team of trick riders from Redding -- will perform several daring feats on horseback including the "Cossack Death Drag," "The Hippodrome Stand" and "One Foot Stand!"

At 7 p.m. Grand Marshal and native son Joe Cortez -- retired Merced PD commander and councilman--will be honored. The rodeo follows, featuring the CCPRA all-around best champion riders from every corner of the state, including top rider, Blake Hirdes -- he's also the association's all-around champion in team roping and calf roping. Grandstand entertainment is presented by Table Mountain Casino, O'Reilly Kragen Auto Parts and Rabobank.

At 8:30 p.m., Morris Day and The Time will perform. Day started out playing with Prince in the legendary "Purple Rain" film. The funk and dance-pop group will bring their "old school" sound blended with new music. The Outdoor Theatre Concert Series is presented by Table Mountain Casino.
