DOS PALOS -- Two people were killed Monday morning in a single-vehicle rollover crash on Interstate 5 south of Los Banos. Eliso Quintero, 15, and Iczert Tate, 27, died when the 1997 Ford sport utility vehicle they were riding in overturned several times and came to rest in a dirt field east of the interstate.
Marshaun K. Tate, 29, of Sacramento was driving 70 to 75 mph northbound on I-5 when the wreck occurred Monday at
8:06 a.m. Tate told California Highway Patrol investigators he heard a loud popping noise coming from his left rear tire and he lost control of the vehicle. The SUV veered off the freeway and overturned several times before resting on its wheels in the field near Laguna Seca Creek Road.
All occupants in the vehicle were wearing seat belts. One passenger, Shaun G. Tate, sustained moderate injuries and a 1-year-old child in a child seat was uninjured.
A post-collision inspection by CHP officers revealed signs of tire-tread separation.
