Thieves took off with about 60 medicinal marijuana plants during an early morning robbery Thursday at a central Merced residence, Merced County Sheriff's deputies reported.
No one was hurt during the incident and the robbers remain at-large, according to Deputy Tom MacKenzie, sheriff's spokesman.
Deputies aren't revealing the specific location of where the incident happened. Dispatch received a call around 2 a.m. about a report of a burglary after someone had entered the residence's backyard, where there's a makeshift plywood enclosure for growing medicinal marijuana.
The owner of the pot was camped out in back when the robbers, four Hispanic males, began taking the plants. The owner confronted the robbers, but one of them brandished a knife and chased him away.
A detailed description of the robbers isn’t available at this time.
Deputies are asking anyone with information about the crime to call (209) 385-7472. Tips are kept confidential, and you can remain anonymous.
