City of Merced to break ground on wastewater treatment plant upgrade

The City of Merced will hold a groundbreaking ceremony at 10 a.m. Friday at the Wastewater Treatment Facility, 10260 Gove Road, to begin Phase V of the plant upgrade.

The upgrade will continue a 'greening" of the plant that will include solar-powered greenhouses to dry sludge and using methane generated at the plant to help power the facility. The upgrades will reduce methane, ammonia and other gas emissions into the air and lower energy costs.

People attending the groundbreaking are advised to weather closed toe, flat shoes because of the uneven ground.
