Cal Fire fighting 150-acre blaze near I-5 in Los Banos

LOS BANOS -- Cal Fire responded to two grass fires, totaling 150 to 200 acres, near the landfill near Billy Wright Road and Interstate 5 in Los Banos.

The fire started at 2:41 p.m. and was 50 percent contained by 5 p.m. Thursday. Cal Fire used seven engines, two air tankers, two helicopters, two bull dozers and two water tenders while fighting the blaze.

Traffic was slowed on both directions of I-5 because of smoke. The fire jumped over the interstate near the Highway 152 junction, Cal Fire officials said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
