Thousands of customers in the area of southeast Merced were left without power late Tuesday afternoon after a car struck a power pole, Pacific Gas and Electric officials reported.
The outage began at 4:43 p.m. and affected 3,596 customers, according to PG & E spokesperson Jana Morris. As of 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Morris said 681 people were still without power.
Morris said it's unknown when power will be fully restored to all customers, although crews are working to address the situation.
