Big rig driver injured after truck overturns near Delhi

A 21-year-old Modesto man received moderate injuries Wednesday after his cement truck overturned on East Avenue, east of Newport Road near Delhi, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The crash was reported around 8:25 a.m. after driver Julio C. Mauri was traveling eastbound on East Avenue in a 2004 Peterbilt cement truck at about 55 mph, according to Officer John Patterson, CHP spokesman.

Mauri steered the cement truck to the right and headed onto the south dirt shoulder. He then turned the vehicle to the left and went back onto the roadway. He lost control of the truck, which traveled back onto the south dirt shoulder, colliding with a wooden pole and barbed wire fence.

The truck overturned on its left side, spilling several yards of concrete onto the south shoulder.

Mauri was taken to Doctors Medical Center of Modesto. DUI wasn’t a factor in the crash.
