Denham says increased domestic energy production can help turnaround unemployment

Congressman Jeff Denham (R-Mariposa) said Friday it's time to increase energy production and bring water to the Central Valley as a way to increase employment and rebuild the economy. His comments were a response to unemployment numbers released Friday by the Labor Department that showed national unemployment in June at 9.2 percent.

"In the face of a $14 trillion debt and a 9.2 percent national unemployment rate, we must reign in spending and provide accountability for the American people," he said in a press release. "It's simple, we have the resources to get people working again and we need to use them. With consistent double-digit unemployment in my district, we must maximize domestic energy production, bring water to the Valley, increase our timber harvest and reduce regulatory burdens and get serious about putting people back to work to turn our economy around."
