Effective Wednesday at 8 a.m., the Madera-Mariposa-Merced unit of the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CalFIRE) has declared no burning below 5,000 feet elevation in Mariposa County.
Burning above 5,000 feet has been restricted to the hours of 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. on permissive burn days only with a valid permit.
