Cal Fire restricts burning below 5,000 feet in Mariposa County

MARIPOSA - Effective Wednesday at 8 a.m., the Madera-Mariposa-Merced Unit of Cal Fire has declared no burning below 5,000-feet elevation in Mariposa County. Burning above 5,000 feet has been restricted to the hours of 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. on permissive burn days only with a valid permit.

Unit Chief Nancy B. Koerperich reminded property owners it’s their responsibility to check burn day status by calling the Mariposa County burn day information line at (209) 966-1200. Burn permit terms include limiting the pile size to 4-feet-by-4-feet in diameter. Everyone conducting outdoor burning must stay with their burning project at all times.
