No one was hurt in a shooting reported late Monday night in the 1100 block of Palm Avenue in Atwater.
Police responded to the scene around 11 p.m. after the victims, two males ages 22 and 51, said they'd been in the area of Broadway and 3rd Street, looking for moving boxes. The victims said they were approached by two suspects who wore black ball caps and bandanas on their faces, according to Detective Adolfo Lomeli.
One of the suspects pulled a handgun, possibly a semi-automatic weapon, and demanded money. Both suspects fled to a blue or silver four-door car after hearing a car alarm go off, Lomeli said.
The victims left the area in their vehicle and had pulled up to a residence on Palm Avenue when they saw the suspects' car pass by. The suspects' car made a U-turn and went back toward the victims. Lomeli said one of the suspects then began shooting at the victims, who took cover behind their vehicle.
At least five or six shots were fired, Lomeli said, and three struck the victims' car.
Few details are available about the suspects, described as black male adults around their mid-20s.
Atwater police are asking anyone with information to call Detective Lomeli at (209) 357-8387 or the department's automated tip-line at (209) 357-6390. Calls are kept confidential and you can remain anonymous.
