Three male juveniles were arrested by Merced County Sheriff's deputies late Wednesday after a short pursuit in the Planada area.
The incident happened around 11 p.m. after deputies responded to reports of shots fired call in the area of Broadway and Cabrillo Street. Deputies spotted an 87 Chevy sedan speeding away from the area, according to Deputy Tom MacKenzie, sheriff's spokesman.
Deputies attempted to pull over the vehicle, but the driver failed to stop. Deputies pursued the vehicle, which reached speeds of 90 mph. The driver of the Chevy tried to make a left turn Plainsburg and Le Grand roads, but lost control of the car, crashing into parking barriers, MacKenzie said.
The driver and three passengers took off on foot. Deputies arrested the 16-year-old driver and a 14-year-old passenger shortly after the crash. About 30 minutes later, a California Highway Patrol officer arrested a third passenger, age 14. A fourth passenger escaped on foot. His description isn’t available.
Deputies learned the suspects' car had been stolen from Merced. No weapons were found inside the car, and MacKenzie said it's unknown whether they fired the reported shots.
Detectives are asking anyone with information about the case to call (209) 385-7472. Tips are kept confidential and you can remain anonymous.
All three suspects were booked into juvenile hall of suspicion of felony evading law enforcement and possession of stolen property.
In addition, the 16-year-old driver was booked on suspicion of DUI.
