24-year-old suspect arrested in South Merced stabbing

Merced police arrested a 24-year-old man early Tuesday on suspicion of attempted murder, after he allegedly stabbed two males at a East San Clemente Drive residence in South Merced.

Police went to the scene in the 100 block of East San Clemente Drive shortly before 1 a.m. and found suspect Anthony Juarez with the two victims, a 21-year-old man and a 16-year-old male, according to Lt. Matt Williams.

Police believe the suspect and the victims were attending a family gathering in the front yard of the residence. For unknown reasons, Juarez approached the victims and stabbed both in the chest. Juarez, who sometimes stays at the same residence, went inside the home and called police, saying he stabbed two people, police said.

The victims were flown to a Modesto hospital and their condition is unknown. Juarez was booked into the Merced County Jail.
