Fire near Catheys Valley burns 10 acres

The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal Fire) Madera-Mariposa-Merced Unit responded to a wildfire on Monday at 6:22 p.m. in the area between White Rock Road and the Van Ness fire control road south of the town of Catheys Valley.

A total of 15 acres was involved, and was under control at 10:38 p.m. The response included nine Cal Fire engines, one dozer, two batallion chiefs, one air attack plan, one helicopter, two air tankers, three Mariposa County Fire Department engines, one Mariposa County Fire Department chief and two hand crews.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. No injuries were reported.
