Merced College's Community Services program has scheduled several bus trips for the local community.
And the college announced the fall schedule for the Merced Children’s Choir.
Baseball fans can take a ride to AT&T Park to see the World Series Champion San Francisco Giants on Aug. 27 and Sept. 10. Or, on Sept. 24, take a trip to Apple Hill for a tour and lunch.
Participants for the Giants game will arrive a couple hours before game time to find seats, have lunch, watch batting practice, visit the gift shop, and try for autographs from Giants players.
The Giants play the Houston Astros on Saturday, Aug. 27. The entire trip begins at 12:30 p.m. and the bus will return at 10:30 p.m. The cost is $85 and includes transportation, refreshments and game ticket.
On Saturday, Sept. 10, the Giants play the Los Angeles Dodgers. The bus leaves at 8:30 a.m. and returns at 7:30 p.m. Cost is $95 and includes transportation, refreshments and ticket.
"A Day at Apple Hill" is the bus trip scheduled for Sept. 24 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Every fall an apple festival takes place at Apple Hill as apple growers open their ranches to the public.
After a tour of the Apple Hill loop, participants will dine on a chicken and apple pie lunch. There will be time to browse the arts and crafts booths and to watch apple products being made. Then the bus will stop in Placerville for a short stop on the way back to allow time to browse downtown shops and galleries. The cost is $70 and includes transportation, tour, lunch and refreshments.

Separately, the college said the Merced Children's Choir begins its fall rehearsal schedule on Sept. 7, ending Dec. 7. Rehearsals are located in Lesher-111 on campus from 3:30 to 5 p.m. The cost per child is $110. Participants are encouraged to register in advance to ensure a spot in the program. Youngsters will participate in several performances throughout the community.
Lorraine Walsh will serve as director of the choir. Walsh, an award-winning vocalist and local artist, teaches Voice and Music History at the college. She also conducts the UC Merced Chorale and teaches all of the university's vocal classes in addition to Music Theory.
As a vocalist, Walsh has performed throughout the U.S. and has traveled to Europe for concerts in Italy, France, Switzerland, Romania and Greece.
The Children's Choir is a mixed choir of young singers ages 7-14. The program has been providing Merced area young people with opportunities to study music, sing and perform for the past five years. The 14-week program allows young choristers to learn a variety of musical techniques, including vocal production, music reading, rhythm, dictation and more. All those interested in the chorale program — both experienced and beginners — are encouraged to participate.
