No serious injures were reported at a structure fire in the 300 block of West 12th Street on Tuesday, the Merced Fire Department reported.
Firefighters responded to the scene shortly before 8 a.m. and saw smoke rising from the home, according to Battalion Chief Tom McCall.
A father and three children were inside the house when the fire was reported, but all had escaped by the time firefighters arrived.
The father appeared to be suffering from smoke inhalation, but refused medical treatment, McCall said. The cause of the fire is unknown and remains under investigation.
Firefighters entered the home and found the fire in a bedroom. The fire was contained within 15 minutes.
Most of the fire damage was to the bedroom. There was smoke damage throughout the structure, which is about 900 to 1,110 square feet in size.
Damage to the building and its contents was estimated at $30,000, McCall said.
McCall said the displaced family members are staying with relatives.
Three engines, one truck one battalion chief and 13 firefighters responded to the scene.
