A 9-year-old girl was killed Monday night when she and two other children were struck "for unknown reasons" by a man driving a Cadillac in Delhi, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The victim has been identified as Stephanie Sanchez-Guzman, according to the Sacramento County Coroner's Office.
One of the other children, Lenny Sanchez, 13, suffered minor injuries. The third child, Marlene Guerrero, 12, was taken to Emanuel Medical Center with moderate injuries. All of the children were from Delhi.
The crash was reported around 8:55 p.m. after Manuel Mercado, 69, of Delhi, was driving his 2005 Cadillac west on Oak Street at about 30 mph, the CHP said in a news release.
The three youngsters were walking west on Oak Street on or near the north road edge, the CHP reported. The Cadillac, "for unknown reasons," according to the CHP, struck all three pedestrians. The cause of the collision hasn't been determined, and DUI doesn't appear to be a factor in the collision, CHP said.
Mercado told officers he didn’t see the children until it was too late.
The seriously injured 9-year-old was flown to UC Davis Medical Center, where she died from her injuries. Mercado wasn't injured.
The crash remains under investigation.
