CA Endowment encourages 'new leadership' in state health agency

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (August 11, 2011) - Daniel Zingale, senior vice president of The California Endowment and founding director of the California Department of Managed Health Care (DMHC) released the following statement about Gov. Brown’s announcement of new DMHC leadership, naming Brent Barnhart director and Shelley Rouillard chief deputy director of the department.

"The Department of Managed Health Care was created to protect the rights of California patients," said Daniel Zingale. "I trust the combined leadership of Brent Barnhart and Shelley Rouillard will protect patients and ensure access to quality affordable prevention and care. Gov. Brown's decision to appoint new leadership comes at an important time for the State's implementation of the new federal Affordable Care Act."

The endowment has also given a grant to the Sun-Star for a health care reporter.
