Atwater Police said a resident complained he’d been stabbed outside a local grocery store by unknown assailants Saturday night.
The complaint came after the California Highway Patrol made a vehicle stop on Santa Fe Avenue and determined the driver was trying to take his passenger to a hospital after he’d been stabbed.
The victim gave vague descriptions of his alleged assailants to Atwater officers, saying only that they were Hispanic males. He claimed they’d robbed him of his wallet and some beer outside the grocery.
He was flown to a Modesto hospital, treated and released early Sunday morning.
Just after midnight Sunday, Atwater police received a report of shots fired in the 1100 block of Kelso Street. Officers arrived and determined that no one had been hurt. However, rounds had struck a vehicle and an apartment building. No one was immediately able to provide a description of the shooter, and it’s unknown who the intended victims may have been, according to Detective Armando Echeverria.
Officers concluded that the rounds had been fired from a high-caliber semiautomatic weapon.
