The American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life Atwater will be held Sept. 17-18 from 9 a.m. to 9 a.m. at Shaffer Elementary School’s track in Atwater.
Relay For Life is a 24-hour-long team event to increase cancer awareness, while raising funds for the American Cancer Society's programs and services. Teams are composed of up to 24 members formed by local businesses, community groups, and family and friends.
More than 347 community members on 38 teams are expected to participate in the Atwater event.
They may raise funds during the event to meet their goals. On the day of the relay each team member takes a turn walking or running around the track, relay-style. Other teammates can enjoy the planned activities and entertainment.
The opening ceremony will be at 9 a.m. Sept. 17, a survivor lap at 9:15 a.m. and a Luminaria ceremony at 7:30 p.m The Fight Back/Closing Ceremony will be held at 8 a.m. Sept. 18. The school is at 1434 California Street in Atwater.
Relay For Life is held in more than 5,100 communities across the country. In California, more than 400 communities will host Relay For Life events this year.
