Msgr. Harvey Fonseca, pastor of St. Jude Thaddeus Church in Livingston, announced a year-long celebration of the Church's 75th Diamond Jubilee Anniversary beginning on Oct. 28 and ending Oct. 28, 2012, the feast days of St. Jude Thaddeus, apostle and martyr.
Newly ordained Father Raúl A. Sánchez, a vocation from St. Jude's, will be the principal celebrant of the official opening Mass on Friday, Oct. 28, at 7 p.m. At the Mass Father Raúl will bless six pilgrim statues of the parish's patron, St. Jude, that will travel throughout the community from home to home for special prayers of intercession during the jubilee year.
One of the highlights of the year will be the celebration of multilingual "Veintiochos Masses" on the 28th of every month in honor of St. Jude. Each month will have a specific topic and a guest celebrant.
Just before Bishop John Steinbock's death, he decreed that all those who take part in any of the activities and events of the Livingston parish's 75th Anniversary Year will receive "partial indulgences." Participants are to be properly disposed and fulfill the usual conditions.
A number of commemorative items are already available, including the publishing of a special 75th Anniversary Parish Family Photo Directory, T-shirts, prayer cards, coffee mugs, a parish post card, bumper stickers and a composition of St. Jude songs.
The 75th anniversary theme will be incorporated into St. Jude's religious festivals held throughout the year, all of which include food, music, novenas, processions and cultural activities.
The church is located at 330 Franci Street, Livingston, in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Fresno.
