Merced police are investigating a shooting that injured a 25-year-old man Wednesday night in the 100 block of South Parsons Avenue.
The motive for the crime is believed to be gang related, according to Lt. Bimley West.
Detectives say the victim and his family were leaving home around 7:45 p.m. when the shooter approached the victim's vehicle on foot and began firing. After being shot, the victim drove to a Valero gas station on East Childs Avenue, where he collapsed near the gas pumps.
Police and paramedics responded to the scene and the victim was taken to a Modesto hospital for treatment. Police didn't say whether the victim has any gang affiliations.
No arrests have been made and police don't have a description of the shooter. The victim remains in critical but stable condition.
