The cause of a residential structure fire in Hilmar is still under investigation.
The fire burned two rooms and part of the attic in a single-story single-family house on the 20000 block of 4th street. A neighbor reported the fire at 10:41 p.m. on Thursday.
Seventeen firefighters responded to the scene with three engines and two water tenders.
“One of the neighbors saw the glow of the fire from their window,” said Cal Fire Battalion Chief Armando Rios. “We were able to get in there rather quick and start extinguishing the fire and keep the damage to a minimum. When you have a quick response it limits the amount damage."
All fire units had left the scene by 1:10 a.m. Friday. The fire caused about $15,000 of damage, said Rios.
PG&E and Turlock Irrigation district officials assisted by turning off gas and electric services during the fire.
