UC Merced break-in: $50,000 in damages and stolen property

The UC Merced Campus library was broken into around 3 a.m. on Friday, according to campus authorities.

Police estimate the theft resulted in about $50,000 in damage and stolen property.

The thieves broke into a door on the east side of the building and proceeded to pry open several other doors as they went into the campus bookstore and a computer-room stealing iPods, 25 laptops and other items.

Upon their arrival, police reported seeing two individuals fleeing the scene. There are no suspects at this time.

This is the first major theft in campus history.
