The Planada Community Christmas Celebration Committee is organizing the annual Christmas celebration. The committee consists of a number of residents of Planada, the local office of the California Highway Patrol, a number of Le Grand High School students, the Planada School District and the Merced County Sheriffs Association. The chairperson of the group is Alicia Rodriguez.
The event is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 17, at noon at the local Planada Elementary School. It’s estimated that 200 families will attend with more than 400 children.
There will be Christmas gifts for the children, music, door prizes and a food basket for the families. Santa Claus will take family photos with the children. Some of the toys have been donated by the Toys for Tots program, Lesa Rasmussen and the Merced County Sheirff's Association.The event is made possible by donations from local businesses and residents. All the toys are wrapped by local volunteers from Planada. The committee already has several elected officials attending the event, including County Supervisor John Pedrozo, Sen. Anthony Canella and Merced County Sheriff Mark Pazin.
