Rescue Mission lags far behind in what it needs to feed 1,000 at Christmas

The Merced County Rescue Mission plans to feed more than 1,000 people at a Christmas dinner Dec. 23 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the American Legion Hall. However, with only 10 days until the event, the nonprofit said it’s lagging far behind in what it needs.

In order to hold the event it needs 70 hams, 300 pounds of potatoes and 100 pounds of salad.

Donors can buy one of the food items or give funds to the mission to buy the supplies.

“We all know Merced County has been hit harder than most, and it always amazes me to see the giving hearts of our community come together to give back,” said Rev. Phillip Schmauss of the mission.
