Man shot after answering door at South Merced home

A man was treated for multiple gunshot wounds after Merced police found him Thursday night at a home in the 100 block of E. 12th Street.

Officer Brian Rinder responded was dispatched to the home after the man told emergency dispatchers he'd been hit by gunfire. The man said a black male adult knocked on his front door, firing a gun when he answered. The suspect fled on foot. The victim, who was taken by air to a Modesto hospital, was in serious condition, police said. He was unable to provide additional details about the suspect.

Officers checked the area but were unable to locate the suspect.
