The Merced Police Department said it arrested an ex-felon for possession of a .357 Magnum handgun and two shotguns.
Officer Samuel Sannadan went to 662 Moonbeam Avenue to conduct a probation search. Officers located a 357 magnum handgun and two shotguns in the residence. A probationer wasn't at the location at the time of the search. However, an ex-felon identified as Joseph Edwards, 26, was there and had apparent control of the firearms, according to a department news release. Because he's an ex-felon, Edwards can't possess or own firearms.
This makes a total of five firearms in the past two weeks that the Merced Police Department has taken off the streets. The news release called it "an ongoing effort in reducing violence in our community by removing firearms from individuals who are prohibited from possessing any firearms due to their past criminal activities."
Police ask anyone with any information about the incident to contact Officer Sannadan at (209) 388-7773 or the Merced Police Department Tipster Line at (209) 385-4725. The public can send information via anonymous text messages to police department by dialing "TIP411" (847411) and including the word "ComVIP" as the "keyword" in the text message. --Sun-Star staff
