MC Hammer, Feed the Children, to deliver trucks of food to Merced, four other cities

OAKLAND — Feed The Children is teaming with recording artist and entrepreneur MC Hammer to deliver five semi-tractor-trailers full of food and essentials for 2,000 families in Northern California, including Merced.

The items will be delivered and distributed Dec. 21-22.

Besides Merced, the other cities are Oakland, Sacramento, San Jose and Stockton.

Feed The Children partner agencies in each city have pre-identified families receiving the boxes. Each family will receive a 25-pound box of food, a 10-pound box of personal care items and a box of Avon products. The boxes are designed to help a family of four for up to one week, according to a news release.

The charity said more than 30 percent of children living in the five cities where food and essentials will be distributed are considered impoverished.

"We are so thankful this holiday season for great partners like Hammer," Tony Sellars, spokesperson for Feed The Children, said in the release.

Since 1979, Feed The Children said it has ranked as one of the largest international charities in the U.S., based on private, non-governmental support. In fiscal year 2010, Feed The Children said it distributed more than 133 million pounds of food and other essentials to children and their families in all 50 states and internationally.
